By having its shifter go 1 mile into the commute (plus plenty of traffic because water main break), making me slam it into third (cringing, because I used enough force to probably bend the shifter rod), and make do with that. I was going to make a post about how the engine was finally running right due to a new fuel line piece, but yesterday on the celebratory drive there was a slight scratching noise emanating from the gearbox. Hopefully the mechanic sees that it's something resulting from the clutch job.

(Note: it did not catch on fire)

God damn. I thought for sure that was a picture of yours, and I was about to come in here offering all of the sympathy.

I suppose a transplosion is still pretty shitty, though. Hopefully it's a surprisingly cheap fix somehow.

All your problems are kind of why I chose to buy a LT1 with a ZF gearbox... it's kind of insane really... in 1 year I've seen you have so many problem with this damn car lol :)

I see what you mean, but the only problems so far have been bad gear oil and poor clutch installment. Either thing could go wrong with the ZF6, even though it's overall a more proven transmission! The 4+3 adds a unique element to driving which I enjoy, but it is a bit more work.

Haha sorry but I wanted that clickbait thumbnail so badly! I'm hoping that my mechanics will fix it for free or little money since they just installed the new clutch, but the problem now is getting it there...

I see what you mean. but I was daily driving my car for a while... It had more miles than yours and it appeared to be FAR more reliable... Nothing aimed toward you really, but it feels like every 2 or 3 months you have a problem with that freaking transmission or cltuch or something else...

I understand, but the only time it's actually broken (aside from this botched clutch install) is when it had a rust hole in the fuel line—and even then I was able to use it as a DD for two days. For a $5,000 car, it's plenty reliable. The Doug Nash itself is not the problem IMO, but uninformed/lazy owners combined with a high-maintenance part will eventually cause a poor perception whether it's fair or not. I bought mine knowing it was rebuilt and hadn't had time to be neglected, but there are always 4+3s on the verge of breaking.

Right? It even matches my avatar.

Update: The car is going to be towed but for free. All hail Hagerty!
